The geyser is located on the southern side of Karymskoe Lake which is inside the caldera “Academy of Sciences”, so the geyser was named Academic (Vakin and Pilipenko, 1996). The geyser is located close the coastal steep slope, at a height of about 6 m above the lake level. Its channel is located among large-fragmented breccia. The diameter of the channel is about 0.5 m, the depth is 1.5 m. This is a rather small geyser - the height of its fountain rarely exceeds 2-3 m. It works unstably: 1-5 minutes after the start of the outpouring, an eruption occurs, but the strength and duration of this eruption can change, so the eruption period (from 5 to 15 minutes) and the duration of the fountaining (from 1 to 7 minutes) also change. This unstable character of the geyser's activity has been existed for almost 30 years. In terms of water composition, it belongs to the Cl-Na thermal waters and is close to the geysers and springs of Geyser Valley and Uzon caldera (Vakin and Pilipenko, 2001).
