A small geyser on the left bank of the Geysernaya River, next to the pulsating spring Averievsky. In 1970-1974 it was chosen for conducting experiments using the hydroprobing method (Merzhanov et al., 1973): "A certain amount of water of a given temperature is poured into the geyser system through a griffin, after which some parametres are measured: the geyser period, the time of filling the system, the duration of the pouring and other eruption stages, the change in temperature and flow rate of the drained and erupted water over time. The water for probing was prepared in a 200-liter barrel, the required initial temperature was achieved by mixing hot and cold water. Cold water (15-20°) was taken from the Geysernaya River, hot water - from the geyser during the eruption. The experiment allows us to determine the enthalpy of the coolant, the flow rate of water entering the geyser system, the free volume of the geyser after eruption, the pressure in the system, etc". Genrikh and Alexander Steinberg were the authors of the geyser's name Kotegey, which is made up of the first letters of "Quantative Theory of Geysers". Before the experiments, the period of the Kotegey geyser was quite clear (12 min 15 sec - 12 min 35 sec) and the height of the eruptions was up to 1.5 m, which was one of the main reasons for choosing it for research. After some time, the geyser activity of Kotegey died down. Observations in 1991: "Kotegey has not worked for several years, possibly due to the activity of the nearby Averevsky geyser. It is weakly hovering, the griffin contains woody debris and is densely surrounded by vegetation” (Bryan et al., 1991). Currently, it is a round griffin with a diameter and depth of 60–70 cm, surrounded by thick grass, at the bottom of which water gently splashes and steams (Leonov, 2011).
