Description
Moydodyr is located on the Ustinovsky slope of dwarf geysers (left side of the Geysernaya River), 10 meters upstream from the Gorizontalny geyser. The geyser's channel was developed in weakly cemented deposits of an ancient landslide. It is located 0.5 m above the river level and consists of a wide cauldron with a diameter of 0.5 m, at the base of which there are several rounded holes with a diameter of 5-10 cm. The geyser was first described by members of the GOSA (Geyser Observation and Study Association) expedition, who worked in the Valley of Geysers in July 1991; in their report it was called Moydodyr (which means "Talking Washbasin", the hero of a poem by K.I. Chukovsky) (Bryan et al., 1991). Boiling water constantly gushed at an angle of 45 degrees to a distance of up to 1 meter - sometimes dying down, then getting stronger again, with a characteristic "angry" sound of spitting boiling water" - it was a pulsating source.  The mudflow of 2014 changed the appearance of the source, "cutting" its structure down to the rocky base. The source itself, however, not only did not suffer, but also became more active than before (Leonov, 2017). In 2015, the upper griffin erupted every 3-5 seconds in splashes up to 1 m high, and several lower griffins worked in geyser mode: first, a stream of boiling water poured out of them for 3 minutes, and then fountaining began at an angle of 45 degrees for 3-5 minutes to a height of 5-7 meters, with a period of 10-12 minutes (Belousov, Belousova, 2020). In 2018-2025 Moydodyr continues to operate in the same geyser mode, but its operating mode is unstable, and there is no clear resting phase.
