Kamchatkan and Northern Kuriles Volcanic Activity

KVERT monitor 30 active volcanoes of Kamchatka and 6 active volcanoes of Northern Kuriles. Not all of these volcanoes had eruptions in historical time, however they are potentially active and therefore are of concern to aviation.

Explosive-extrusive eruption of the volcano continues. Ash explosions up to 32,800 ft (10 km) a.s.l. could occur at any time. Ongoing activity could affect international and low-flying aircraft.
A growth of the lava dome continues (a viscous lava flow reveal in the northern its part), strong fumarole activity, ash explosions, hot avalanches and an incandescence of the dome blocks and hot avalanches accompany this process. Satellite data by KVERT showed a thermal anomaly over the lava dome all week.

KLYUCHEVSKOY VOLCANO (CAVW #300260)

Aviation Color Code is ORANGE
Explosive-effusive eruption of the volcano continues. Ash explosions up to 26,240-32,800 ft (8-10 km) a.s.l. could occur at any time. Ongoing activity could affect international and low-flying aircraft.
Explosive-effusive eruption of the volcano continues: there are bursts of volcanic bombs above the summit crater and above the cinder cone into Apakhonchich chute, and strong gas-steam activity of two volcanic centers with emission of different amounts of ash, and the effusing of lava flows along Apakhonchich chute at the south-eastern flank of the volcano. According to satellite data by KVERT, a large bright thermal anomaly was observed in the area of the volcano all week.

Explosive eruption of the volcano continues. Ash explosions up to 19,700 ft (6 km) a.s.l. could occur at any time. Ongoing activity could affect low-flying aircraft.
A moderate explosive eruption of the volcano continues. According to satellite data by KVERT, gas-steam plumes containing ash on the height up to 4.5 km a.s.l. drifted for about 280 km to the north-east from the volcano on 17-18 August. Ashfalls was detected at Severo-Kurilsk (Paramushir Island) in the evening on 18 August.
