Description
Ekarma volcano is a slightly truncated cone up to 1170 m high. Numerous lava flows up to 3 km long descend from the top to all directions. The summit crater is sealed with an extrusion dome that completely covers the ridge and gives the apex a pointed shape. The coastline of the volcano has a multi-lobed shape in places: protruding “tongues” are composed of lava flows, and pyroclastic rocks are exposed in the bays between them. The lavas of Ekarma volcano are represented by two-pyroxene andesites and andesite basalts. The apical dome and the last viscous lava flows are composed of more acidic two-pyroxene andesites with a noticeable admixture of hornblende in phenocrysts.

Potencial Hazard
Ash clouds, ash falls, pyroclastic flows, hot avalanches and lahars are a potential hazard associated with explosive eruptions of this volcano. The volcano poses a potential hazard to international and local airlines passing in the Kuriles region, since the height of its ash emissions can reach 10-15 km above sea level, ash plumes and clouds can drift hundreds of kilometers from the volcano in different directions. In addition, the outflow of lava flows onto the slopes of the volcano and the surrounding area is possibly.
