Геологические и геофизические данные о Большом трещинном Толбачинском извержении 1975-1976 гг. / Отв. ред. Мархинин Е.К., Федотов С.А. М.: Наука. 1978. 254 с.
   Annotation
Geological and geophysical data on the large Fissure Tolbachik eruption of 1975-1976. Tolbachik eruption in 1975-1976 is the largest basaltic eruption of Kurile-Kamchatka volcanic belt which took place in the historic period and seems to be one of the most remarkable geological events on the Earth in our century. During this eruption a complex of seismological and other gophysical, geodetic, geological-geochemical investigations was carried out; In this book are presented the description of the eruption, data on its products, essential changes of the basalt composition during eruption, on magmatic gases and their metal content, volcanic earthquakes and tremor, on mechanism of this eruption, deformation of Earth’s surface due to basalt intrusion, deep structure of the region of eruption and etc.
On the whole this book is interesting for specialists in geology, geophysics and geochemistry, studying problems of volcanic and magmatic activity, volcanic products, sources of ore metals and geodynamics.

The reports, introduced on scientific session of the First International Kuril-Kamchatka field workshop, are published in this book. Papers are devoted to studying the geothermal and mineral resources of modern volcanism areas and, first of all, to researching the long-living ore-forming hydrothermal-magmatic systems of insular arcs. The following scientific themes in six sections are submited: (1) geothermal resources, common problems; (2) structure, thermal and power supply of hydrothermal-magmatic systems; (3) petrology, mineralogy and geochemistry of rocks; (4) geochemistry and dynamics of gases and natural waters; (5) ore mineralization in geothermal systems; (6) seismicity of geothermal regions and geotechnological aspects. The tendencies of development of researches, the new ideas and concrete actual materials on an example of geothermal fields of Kuril Islands and Kamchatka, and also New Zealand, Philippines, USA etc., are discussed. The new tasks of geothermal and mineral resources studying are formulated.
The book is prepared for specialists in Earths sciences, geologists, volcanologists, hydrogeologists, geochemistris, perologists, mineralogists etc.; for teaches, post-graduate students and students, all readers which are interested by problems of a geothermie and hydrothermal mineral-ore formation.

Results of complex study of pyroclastic deposits from Bezymianny and Schiveluch volcanoes are present in this work. Comparative characteristics of engineering-geological features are given for various genetic types of pyroclastic deposits from andesitic volcanoes, as well as for pyroclastic deposits from andesitic and basaltic volcanoes on the whole.
Criteria for distinguishing genetic types of pyroclastic deposits from andesitic volcanoes have been substantiated.

The monograph presents various data about the volcanoes of Kamchatka and describes the possibilities of studying them based on the integrated use of remote sensing, ground-based observation and numerical simulation methods and technologies. Considerable attention is paid to the construction and application of the information systems that today provide operational monitoring and studies of volcanic activity, which have been jointly developed in the recent years by the experts from the Institute of Volcanology and Seismology of the Far East Branch of the Russian Academy of Sciences (IVS FEB RAS) (Petropavlovsk-Kamchatsky), Space Research Institute RAS (Moscow), Computing Center FEB RAS (Khabarovsk) and the Far East Branch of the Research Center “Planetа” (Khabarovsk). The results of complex studies of explosive volcanic eruptions and the potential hazards of the Kamchatkan active volcanoes to the population and aviation are presented which are obtained by the scientists of IVS FEB RAS, particularly exploring the new methods, technologies and systems described in the monograph.

The book provides a systematic description of active volcanoes of Kamchatka — one of the most active volcanic regions of the world. Distribution, shape and activity of the volcanoes, their position in complex and long-lived volcanic centres, as well as their geologic structure and composition are presented.
The book is illustrated with colour maps, schemes, and sketches. Over 300 colour photographs show volcanic landscapes, diverse volcanic forms (cones, craters, lava flows, calderas, etc.) and various manifestations of post-volcanic activity (hydrotherms, famous Kamchatka geysers).
Concise, lavishly illustrated with colourful and high-quality photographs, the book makes an interesting and useful reading not only for specialists (volcanologists, geologists, geochemists, geophysicists, geographes, etc.) but for a bioad readership as well. The publication is unique and unparalleled in scientific literature. The text is presented in Russian and in English.
This monography is written by scientists from the Institute of volcanology, Far East Division, the Academy of Science of the USSR.
