The volcano has an oval shape in plan size 6 x 7 km with an extension along the axis of the Island - to the northeast. Kuntomintar is a double volcano built according to the Somma-Vesuvius type. The outer somma composes the eastern part of the massif; its southeastern part bears traces of intense glacial erosion. In the northeastern part of the massif, an ancient caldera with a diameter of 4 - 4.5 km is read, buried under the cone of the volcano. In the cliffs, the structure of a stratovolcano with a sharp predominance of pyroclastic rocks is clearly visible. Continuous solfatar activity is noted at the eastern wall of the volcano caldera (Горшков, 1967).
