Current State: A moderate explosive eruption of the volcano continues. According to visual data by volcanologists from Severo-Kurilsk, explosions sent ash up to 2.8 km a.s.l. on March 18, and 21-22; ash clouds moved to the north-east and east from the volcano. Satellite data by KVERT showed ash plumes extended up to 76 km to the east from the volcano on March 22-23, the volcano was quiet or obscured by clouds during other days of the week. 
Danger Prognosis for Aviation: A moderate explosive eruption of the volcano continues. Ash explosions up to 6 km (19,700 ft) a.s.l. could occur at any time. Ongoing activity could affect low-flying aircraft and airport of Severo-Kurilsk.
